All we want for Christmas is… love and warmth around us! We do believe there is no better way to create those memories than having a good time together, so we’ve come up with a list of simple and easy Christmas games for families.

Christmas Time Means Family Time

Christmas celebrations are a true American tradition. Although it’s a wonderful time, we understand that the planning around it might collapse with the busy schedule of a mom (regardless if you have formal work aside).

So here is AEA’s contribution for your efforts of creating and collecting memorable moments.

Are Christmas Games for Families A Must?

Definitely yes!

There’s no better way to create memories than sharing out loud laughs and delicious food with the people you love. And there’s no better time of the year to do that other than Christmas.

Let’s dive into some Christmas activities that are perfect for one of the most important dates of the year.

Christmas Charades

Materials

  • A hat or a bowl
  • Small pieces of paper
  • A pen or a pencil
  • A timer or a stopwatch

Rules

  1. Divide players into two teams.
  2. Write down different Christmas-themed words or phrases on separate strips of paper.
  3. Fold the strips of paper and place them in a bowl or hat.
  4. Choose a team to start.
  5. The first player from that team draws a strip of paper and reads the word or phrase to themselves. Do not share it with your other team members!
  6. Without speaking, the player acts out the word or phrase to their teammates. They can use gestures or mimics.
  7. Their teammates try to guess the word or phrase within the time limit.
  8. If the team guesses correctly, they earn a point.
  9. If the team cannot guess the word or phrase, the other team has one chance to guess.
  10. Play continues until one team reaches the predetermined score.

The first team to reach a predetermined score wins the game!

I Spy

Materials

No special equipment required – just your observant eyes and full attention!

Rules

  1. Gather your family in a cozy spot of the house.
  2. Choose one player to be the first Spy.
  3. The Spy should take a moment to observe their surroundings and select an object that everyone can see.
  4. When ready, the Spy should say, “I spy with my little eye something with…” followed by a cue – such as the first letter, the color or shape of the chosen object.
  5. The other players should start guessing to which objects the Spy refers to. They can take turns guessing, but keeping only one guess per person.
  6. The game continues until one player correctly identifies the object. The player who guesses correctly becomes the next Spy!

There’s no official scorekeeping in “I Spy.” The joy lies in the shared experience of teamwork, deduction, and playful banter!

Christmas Scavenger Hunt

Materials

  • Christmas-themed clues (printed or handwritten)
  • Small treats or prizes (optional)

Rules

  1. Craft a series of riddles or clues that lead to hidden objects or locations around the house. Make sure that the clues are age-appropriate and solvable for all participants.
  2. Strategically place the clues around the house, considering their difficulty level. Start with easy hints and gradually increase the challenge.
  3. Gather your family and go through the rules of the scavenger hunt. Encourage teamwork and collaboration.
  4. Start the game by revealing the first clue. Let the teams work together to solve the riddles and follow the trail of clues.

The first team to decipher all the clues and reach the final destination wins! In case of a tie, an additional challenge or riddle can be used to determine the ultimate winner.

Rudolph’s Red Nose

Materials

Rules

One of the most important parts of the game is: no hands allowed when moving the red pompom to Rudolph’s missing nose part!

  1. To make the dispute more engaging, divide the players into different teams.
  2. Hang multiple reindeer cutouts on a wall at a comfortable height for short height players.
  3. Prepare a small container of vaseline or similar ointment (make sure the material is hypoallergenic) and red pom poms.
  4. Apply a small amount of vaseline to the reindeer cutout’s nose area. This will help the nose to stick out to it.
  5. Have the players dip the tip of their nose into the vaseline/ointment, and then get the red pom pom using the oily tip.
  6. Have the designated reindeer try to stick the red pom pom onto the vaseline-covered nose area.

Wins whoever has more red pompom noses correctly placed in Rudolph’s cutouts!

Hopefully this list has helped save some time and you have some to spare to continue planning the perfect holiday with your loved ones.
