STEAM activities for kids: At Amazing Explorers, we enjoy nothing more than seeing our students’ faces light up when they learn something new, or see something that inspires them. Fortunately, and thanks in no small part to STEAM learning (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics), we are spoiled for choice when it comes to picking lessons to teach!

If you’re keen to learn more about exciting STEAM activities for kids, that’s what this post is all about. So, without further ado, let’s dive in and get to know some of the most intriguing STEAM activities for kids to keep your child fascinated. You’ll be able to find plenty of images online by searching for the activities below.

Creating a Balancing Robot (or Character)

Perhaps one of the most eye-catching experiments that you can do is what we like to call the Balancing Robot. Using recyclable materials including the inner tube of toilet rolls, cereal boxes, and cardboard; the purpose of this activity is to craft a robotic character with a flattened head. If done properly, the center of the head can be placed on a pointed object and thanks to gravity and other forces – the robot should then balance without concern.

Panpipes for the Musically Inclined

STEAM Activities for Kids

If your child is a fan of music, DIY pan flutes and pipes could be an excellent way to encourage their creativity, while allowing them to create their own sounds. DIY options can vary from method to method, but one of the best that we’ve come across involves using small plastic straws held together with a few strips of horizontal cardboard to keep them in place. Be sure to cut the straws to different lengths before gluing, so that the finished piece looks like a funky version of a traditional panpipe.

Stained ‘Glass’ Decorations

STEAM Activities for Kids

There’s no denying that stained glass windows look iconic and impressive, so imagine being able to make one at home with your child and then proudly display it for all to see. What’s even better is this STEAM activities for kids is that there’s no need to use real glass; in fact, any form of transparent (or colored) flat plastic sheeting can be sufficient. Simply take a black permanent marker and draw straight lines, or a design of your choosing. A Sharpie pen would be ideal, as it will remain black even if you or your child color over the lines. Then using regular felt-tip pens, color in each section and consider a spray varnish to protect it when finished.

These are just a small selection of enjoyable STEAM activities for kids. At Amazing Explorers, we try and integrate as much creativity and excitement into our lessons as possible.
