Having a baby is a very exciting experience as it brings a breath of new life and a new concept of love to the family. However, as much as it is exciting, it is also overwhelming. It’s very common for new moms to have doubts and insecurities along with this new experience.

Lots of unanswered questions, a sense of not feeling ready for motherhood and uncountable moments of getting emotional are part of being a new mom. The most important thing is to know that you are not alone, ok? With that in mind, we gathered 5 pieces of advice for new moms. Keep reading!

1 – Have a support network

The feeling of being alone and having no one to talk to can be very distressing. Having a support network is essential to share opinions, insecurities and feelings that if bottled up can lead to heavy anxiety and burnout.

Choose and find people you can trust to be your solid rock when you feel like you need support and remember that you are not alone to face the challenges of being a new mom.

2 – Ask for and accept help

It’s very common for new moms to try to figure out everything on their own. Sometimes we feel shame for not knowing what to do, or we can feel not trusting of other people’s advice. It’s ok to feel like you want to solve every single problem, but this habit can drain and exhaust a woman over time.

Find people you trust and don’t be afraid to ask for help being that advice or support on practical chores. Allow yourself to be helped as well, so whenever someone offers a hand, accept it without overthinking.

3 – Do online research

This is the best time in history to find information about any kind of subject. The internet is filled with content and it is an amazing place to find good advice for new moms.

Do your research through blog posts and subscribe to forums and social media groups where there is a lot of specific information available. Be sure, tough, to filter good quality information. If you have any questions, you can always speak to your doctor about it.

4 – Learn from other mothers

The best source of information for new moms is the one built by women who have already gone through the experience of motherhood. You can find community groups that support new moms, or as mentioned above, you can join motherhood social media groups and find lots of other moms that will be happy to support other women going through this phase and the further challenges, especially education.

5 – Give yourself permission to be imperfect

Last but not least, one of the most important tips on being a new mom, is to give yourself permission to be imperfect. As difficult as it can be, we need to remind ourselves that we are not perfect and we are going to make mistakes, inevitably. Also, remember that making mistakes doesn’t mean you don’t love your child. It only means that you are human and trying your best.

Society tends to preach about how this moment is magical to a perfection, that moms will have it all figured out but this is far from the truth. It is a time to be vulnerable for not exactly knowing what to do. The secret here is to release guilt. Without it, you will lift a huge load over your shoulders and strengthen the bond with your child.

Motherhood can be challenging, but as we mentioned, you are not alone and there are a lot of women who gladly like to help and give good advice for new moms. Remember always that you are doing your best, and be compassionate towards yourself for your efforts. Make sure you have time for self care, as you are as important as your child.
